Links gone wild!
Bruce Bawer is a guy who can make multiculturalists squirm in their seats. He gets progressive street cred for being a gay man who moved to Europe ten years ago to bathe himself in that enlightened society. But from that front-row perch, he watched with growing dismay as a distinctly homophobic Muslim culture made its stealthy way across the Continent. Out of that experience came a book called “While Europe Slept,” which chronicled the absurd accommodations European governments have granted to their Muslim populations in the name of multiculturalism and tolerance — often at the sacrifice of Western values. In this piece from City Journal, Bawer expands on that thesis, focusing specifically on the “disturbing success” Muslims have had in bending Western societies to Islamic law, or sharia.
When I first started reading this piece on the parallels between the movie “The Godfather” and the competing schools of foreign policy, I thought it was a little gimmicky. But within a couple of minutes, I realized that the author was onto something. Whether you’re a liberal, a neoconservative or a realist, you’ve got a doppelganger in one of the characters from “The Godfather.” Are you Tom, Sonny or Michael? Read it and decide.
A WAW loyalist sent this link along earlier in the week. It’s the web site for a Dutch department store, and if you wait a few seconds for it to kick into action, the site turns into a Rube Goldberg-style funhouse. Just take your hands off the mouse and watch. (Also, at the end you’ll notice that one of the products for sale is a “ghettoblaster.” Boy, there’s an echo from the ’80s.)

So Hillary and the Dems are Tom Hagen and Michael is the yet-to-be-named saviour of western civilization. OK. Fair enough. But the shoot-first hot-head is a couple neocons I never heard of or Rumsfeld?
I persevere with the conviction that Dubyah’s name will soon appear in the “Sonny” section, but it never does. Did I miss it?
I can only infer then, that Dubyah’s “Fredo”. I think that’s inaccurate. Bush the Younger is not weak or a coward or a fool - he’s not weak or a coward anyway; and he’s loyal to a fault (i.e. albatrosses like Cheney and the aforementioned Rummy remain - or at least survived well beyond their political shelf life). Fredo turned on Mikey in Godfather II. That’s behavior most un-Dubyah-like.
Is the lack of a direct Bush reference conspicuous in it’s absence? Is he trivialized? Is he absolved of any responsibility or blame for our sorry state of affairs? Do I need a life? Maybe. But in my defense, I only read the damned article once. Theres’ a GUNSMOKE marathon in progress on TVLand.
What’s the real-world parallel to Khartoum’s head in bed with Jack Woltz? Maybe it was supposed to be Shock and Awe. How’ed that work out anyway?
I thought Links Gone Wild! was supposed to be music videos and word games. This is too hard.
